Earring (also called earbob) is an ornament worn on ears. The Egyptians were the first to wear large gold hoops, which is now substituted by smaller ones. In Babylonia and later in Assyria, earring was worn by men to signify their status.
Earrings were commonly worn by piercing one’s ear, but at present both pierced and non-pierced (clip-on) earrings are used. There are many types of earrings. Some common are stud, hoop, dangle, slave, clip-on, magnetic, stick-on, spring hoop earrings etc.
