Nowadays, several new techniques are being used for manufacturing glass beads to give it completely different look. But in general glass bead is made when hot boiling glass is pressed and mold in such a way that a hole is created in the center through which a string can pass. During the boiling process, color(s) are added to the glass. Glass bead made with lampworking technique is among the most famous one.

Except obsidian (rainbow, snowflower) and moldavite all other glass are man-made; and it is not possible to eye separate "natural glass" (tektite) from man-made ones. Therefore it is better to purchase "natural glass beads" that have been verified by reputed gemological lab.
